Nature reserves guarantee the diversity of the fauna, flora and the quality of their habitats. The nature reserve on the Haute Chaine du Jura protects the landscapes that are worthy of conservation such as the high mountain pastures and the Pays de Gex mountain bases.

The Franco-Geneva Regional Committee (CRFG as it is known in French) is the oldest example of Franco-Swiss transborder cooperation. It was created in July 1973 through an agreement between the French State and the Swiss Confederation and currently groups together the canton of Geneva, Vaud, the Prefectures of the Rhone-Alps region, of Ain and of Haute Savoie, the Rhone-Alps Region as well as the Departments of Ain and of Haute Savoie and their communities under ARC (Geneva Communities Regional Cooperation Association).
