The origin of the festival: around 1225 at the wedding of Léonète, Lady of Gex, with the prince de Joinville, great festivities took place, but churls had the audacity to claim a share of the feast, in fact roasted birds. The prince ordered to hang them, but more lenient, Léonète obtained their mercy. The birds were then placed at the end of lances and were won by the most skilful archers. This festival already attested in 1526 proceeded traditionally on the Perdtemps place. The election of the queen of Oiseau began in 1951, the king and the queen made a procession in the streets of Gex, incarnations of Léonète de Gex and her husband Simon de Joinville. For 3 days in a row all kind of events take place such as : torchlight procession, large historical procession (the queen and the king in the lead), the shooting at Oiseau to elect the king and his kinglet, election of the queen, fireworks, dance and great fun fair. | The festival of Divonne’s Lake - on July 14, 2006 |

The lake of Divonne-les-Bains, drawn by the painter Jean Debaud was inaugurated in June 1964, it covers a surface of 45 ha. With its nautical club, its circular harbour in the greenery, its beach and its nautical center, the lake is the principal center of attraction of Pays-de-Gex in summer. Each year in the falling night from July 14, the arabesques of fireworks reflect in the water and gather nearly 10.000 people on the shore of the lake . | Lumberjacks Festival in Mijoux - on July 23, 2006 |
| This Festival was created in 1975, the idea was to valorize wood and its traditional jobs, source of important richness and development for the valley of Valserine. Several tests related to the job of logger proceed. These events test the speed and the professional dexterity of the participants. Then there is a procession with lumberjacks the axe on the shoulder, followed by floats manufactured by associations and voluntary, and the rise of a herd of cows prepared as for the rise to the mountain pasture. This festival was launched in 1994 by the association “the formerly trades of Pays-de-Gex”, thus wishing to make revive work at the farm, give a new life to old tools and awake the objects laden with memories (and with dust!). Demonstrations of old tools or machines ( old engines, still, presses…), country meal and popular dance follow one another. At this occasion the visitor can come closer to the farm animals, attend work of ploughing, sowing, threshing, harvest… reconstituted with vintage material, and take part to a threshing day typical meal.
